Peony Pavilion in Brawley, CA, has carved out a niche as a go-to spot for authentic Chinese cuisine. Located at 1505 Main St, diners are treated to a clean and low-key atmosphere that focuses on service and good food. Customer feedback is varied but illuminating; some revel in the delightful flavors and generous portions, while others have encountered inconsistencies in quality.
A standout star, as noted by Tho S., is the restaurant's ability to deliver genuine Chinese fare that rivals larger establishments like Panda Express. Diners appreciate dishes like the BBQ Pork and Chicken Potstickers, while beef options such as Beef with Broccoli have also received praise. However, Clos Cross expressed disappointment with the dry salt and pepper chicken, suggesting that careful timing during preparation may improve consistency.
In a surprising turn, I Am MOJO! reflected on an enhanced experience after initially feeling neglected, showing the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction. Overall, Peony Pavilion is a simple yet charming establishment where bold flavors collide with hearty portions, making it worth a second visit to discover culinary gems amidst the occasional misstep.

Reviews for Peony Pavilion
Review highlights
Based on 159 reviewsPeony Pavilion is generally praised for its authentic Chinese cuisine and generous portion sizes, appealing especially to repeat and longtime visitors. Customers appreciate the clean, low-key atmosphere and friendly, attentive service, which in some instances has notably improved over time. The menu offers vegan options that receive positive mentions. However, there are recurring comments about inconsistencies in food quality, including dryness in some dishes and occasional issues with preparation like overcooked rice. While not considered a high-end establishment, Peony Pavilion remains a favored local spot for those seeking genuine flavors and a welcoming environment in Brawley.
I visited the restaurant for the first time in a year. The vegan option of noodles and vegetables was spectacular! The restaurant didn’t seem to have any air conditioning which is odd seeing that the temperature outside was close to 100 degrees! Clean atmosphere with low key environment.
It may have been that I was the first customer of the day, but the food was disappointing. I ordered the personal combo with salt and pepper chicken. The presentation was great and it smelled delicious. Unfortunately, the salt and pepper chicken was very dry, but the breading was tasty. The pork fried rice was a little burnt (and it tasted like it) and both the pork and rice was dry and bland. Lastly, the chicken chow mein was ok. The flavor was bland as well, but better than the rice. I do plan on returning at a later date and trying something else later in the day. Hopefully, it was just me being the first customer.
Update: I had left a 1-star review two years ago (original below this updated review). This evening, my boyfriend and I enjoyed amazing service and exceptional food. Raul was our server who is also a manager. He was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Based on his service this evening; I change my previous 1-star to a 5-star review! —————- Old Review: Not sure if the waitress was having a bad day but did not express any interest in providing good service. We have been long time customers but will not be back and will not recommend! If you do not care about your customers; we do not care about you!
I’ve been coming down to Brawley every summer for the last five years to work on our summer projects. I saw this Chinese restaurant and decided it’s finally time to give it a try - year #5. I didn’t expect much since this is Brawley but boy was I wrong. The food were delicious with ginormous portion and it’s authentic Chinese food not Panda Express. It became our go to place while we’re in town. My crew and I find ourselves going back for dinner at least 2 times a week. Yummy in my tummy, real authentic Chinese food in an likely place - small town Brawley.
When I'm in town and in the mood for Chinese I come here. Been doing it for years. Not the fanciest place but the food is great and the workers are kind.
